Perhaps one of the best ways to go to learn anything is first of all to learn to learn, or to learn tools that when applied helped you to learn something. Exercising, getting a good night’s sleep, eating well, asking questions are some of these tools. Today I’m going to talk about a technique that you can apply in many areas of learning in your life.
As an example, let’s say you have an algebra test and you have a list of subjects that will be on the test. Perfect, you already know what you need to learn. Now see what a simple and very useful technique tip I heard these days from Hypnologist Alberto Dell’isola. The goal is very simple: keep certain information. Alberto Dell’isola names her as ABC technician. Basically you:
- First you list the subjects you want (or need) to learn about a certain subject
- Now you rank each item on your list as A, B or C
- For this, consider that A, you master the item, B you have a certain mastery of the item but not complete, and C you don’t know anything about the item.
- The A’s are already dominated. So your next objective is to turn items B into A
- Caution: Don’t pick up a C-rated item before turning the B’s into A’s
This technique you can apply to different areas of learning in your life. As Alberto said, it is common for people to think that the greatest difficulty in learning is to acquire new information, however the problem is the difficult tendency to keep new information.
Still to paraphrase Alberto, it is much more important the amount of revisions you do, than worrying about learning new things all the time.
Do you understand why your Jiu-jitsu teacher insisted that you repeat the position he taught you? Do you understand why doing math exercises makes you able to solve similar exercises?
