Questões Agro: a personal app to prepare for civil service entrance exams 🌱📱

Questões Agro is a study app that turns solving questions into an interactive process with Artificial Intelligence (AI). I originally developed it for my own civil service entrance exams (public competitive exams in Brazil), but soon realized it could help many more people.

In 2023, I took the civil service exam for Agricultural Engineer at the Empresa de Desenvolvimento Agropecuário de Sergipe (EMDAGRO – Agricultural Development Company of Sergipe), motivated by the desire to work closer to my family in Sergipe. At that time, I adopted a strategy that I consider decisive for the result I achieved: I focused almost exclusively on solving questions. About a year later, I was called to assume the position, although I decided not to take it.

Fast forward to 2025. Back into the routine of exams (Instituto Nacional do Semiárido – INSA, Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation – EMBRAPA, National Supply Company – CONAB), I kept this central pillar — the questions — but realized I could take the method further. That’s when I decided to create an application, merging technology and education to transform my learning process. This is how Questões Agro was born.

How Questões Agro was created

Questões Agro was developed in Flutter, integrated with the OpenAI API to run generative AI models directly in the app and interact with me. The idea was simple, but powerful:

  • Each solved question was recorded inside the app.
  • My answers served as a “knowledge base” for OpenAI’s models, which accessed them on the backend, ensuring accurate understanding of the subject.
  • The AI, already with the context of my own answers, engaged in dialogue with me about each question directly in the app.

In this way, I learned actively while writing, and then deepened my studies by revisiting the questions in the app and discussing them with the AI. It wasn’t just studying: it was like having a tutor always available, trained from reliable reasoning.

What I learned by building my own AI tutor

Questões Agro brought a unique experience by turning question-solving into an active and interactive process, supported by AI. But beyond that, it was also a great opportunity to apply:

  • Active learning (learning by solving and discussing questions).
  • Personalized AI training for my own needs.
  • Entrepreneurship and technology, applying mobile development to my own study process, sharing question resolutions on Instagram (@QuestoesAgro) and creating a dedicated website.
  • Agronomy learning focused on civil service exams.
  • Opening professional opportunities through the exams I took.

But it’s important to emphasize: the app was not the only tool in my preparation. During my studies, I used several techniques I consider fundamental: the memory palace to organize content visually, producing texts and slides to practice active recall, and even simulating classes, explaining topics as if I were teaching them. Each of these strategies helped consolidate knowledge at different levels.

The app became part of this set as a strategic ally, boosting my studies with technology and enabling a unique interaction with my own answers. It was precisely this combination — discipline, varied methods, and innovation — that led me to concrete results: 5th place (for 3 positions) in the EMBRAPA exam and 10th place (for 8 positions) in the CONAB exam, with a real chance of being appointed.

Behind the scenes

Not everything was easy 🌱. Solving questions and keeping the app updated required effort. Recording each answer demanded discipline and extra time, which made me reflect: technology can enhance learning, but human effort is fundamental.

In the end…

Questões Agro was more than just an app. It was proof that it is possible to use cutting-edge technology to personalize education in a practical and accessible way.

Who knows? Maybe in the future I will officially launch Questões Agro, so that it can also help other exam candidates and agricultural professionals achieve their goals.

👉 And you, would you use an app like this in your studies?
