Whatever you do, do it with love!

“To be happy, it is not enough to always do what you love. But always love what you do”

In the middle of my freshman year of college I gave myself advice very similar to this one. On a piece of paper I wrote some short rules to practice in my routines and hung it on the side wall beside my bed. One of them was: “Do it with love!”.

The goal was simple, no matter what the task, it should be done with love. If it was necessary to spend time on something I didn’t want to do, that time should be spent with dedication. It was no longer permissible to simply go through a certain task with an eager desire for it to pass quickly. That meant that even if I didn’t want to do what needed to be done, I should do it with dedication, with presence.

Doing what needs to be done, with love, is an exercise in humility. Doing what needs to be done, with love, is an exercise in self-responsibility. And self responsibility is putting the reins of your life in your hands, becoming a leader of yourself and stopping blaming others. This kind of attitude tells you that it’s all your responsibility, whether for success or failure.

Will you build a work team? Select those who take responsibility for their lives. Select those that even to clean the floor, do it with care.

So stop wishing for the perfect day, the dream job, and that everything works out. Stop deluding yourself with what you don’t control. Need to wash a dish? Wash with love. Need to clean private? Wash with love.

Remember, among the many definitions of love, mine today is: dedication and presence..
